This assumption is based on cemetery records I have found for Northern Cemetery in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand - where Wm Renton and an Isabella Renton of similar age are buried with James Carrell Renton and his wife Christina Paul Wilkie

Further substantiating the above statement - I found a newspaper article - from the Otago Witness newspaper describing Mr & Mrs William Renton of Castle Street, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary
