Jan 2011 - for the moment I am presuming or taking an educated guess that James Carrell Renton's parents were a William Renton & Isabella unknown - perhaps Douglas as the name Douglas is one of the given names for James Carrell Renton & Christina Paul Wilkie's dtr.
This assumption is based on cemetery records I have found for Northern Cemetery in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand - where Wm Renton and an Isabella Renton of similar age are buried with James Carrell Renton and his wife Christina Paul Wilkie

Further substantiating the above statement - I found a newspaper article - from the Otago Witness newspaper describing Mr & Mrs William Renton of Castle Street, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary

William married Isabella in Unknown. Isabella died on 18 Oct 1896 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand; was buried on 20 Oct 1896 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
