After her parents Dave and Annie immigrated to Canada in 1911-12, then returned in 1914 to try and improve Netties' health. While back in Scotland, Dunfermline, WWI was declared and Dave Wilkie was required to work in the coal mines and shipyards. The family did return to Canada in 1920 settling in the Garden Plains area, Alberta.
