Andrew received a service award for raising horss for Queen Elizabeth II in 1972. I have a photo of the agricultural award that was presented to Andrew. We visited this farm on our first visit to Scotland in 1982; Andrew was deceased then but we did meet his wife Mary and son Charlie who were still living and working on the farm. Newspaper article: 1952 Train Hits Tractor at level crossing near Milnathort - 3 people hurt and 1 girl killed Newspaper article states a dreadful accident that happened across the road from Gospetry Farm, where Andrew Wilkie was grieve. Mr Douglas B Clark was the owner of Gospetry farms at the time. Andrew, age 56, suffered a dislocated shoulder and other injuries, is detained in Bridge of Earn Hospital The driver, James Baldie, 23, managed to jump clear as did Adam Todd and his two sons Alex & Joseph, all of Gospetry. Cottages. Baldie's sister and the grieve were still in the trailer when the train engine hit it. It was a terrible impact. The tractor and trailer were mangled wrecks. A wheel was thrown 100 yards across a field. Normally the train crosses this area at noon, so the people were not expecting the train to arrive agter 1 pm. It is stated they didn't hear it coming. According to a newspaper article written in 1988, Charlie Wilkie comments "My Father had been a prisoner of war after being wounded in the Great War - I still have his cap badge, postcards he sent while on service and many other momentos and I too wanted to serve my country .. After several ischemia attacks, advancing disability with Parkinson's Disease, Mom was admitted to Bethany Care Centre long term Care in March or April, 1982. At a young age she came with her parents to reside in the Bulwark district. She attended school at Knob Hill. On December 13, 1926 she was married to Andrew Wilkie. Their union was blessed with three children - 2 sons Allan and Richard; one daughter - Heather. Hazel loved her family and home, she was a good wife and mother. She held a keen interest in her community and church. She was the Sunday School Treasurer, then Sunday School Superintendant at Knox United Church for 15 years. She worked for a time as collector for the CPR dray business of Andy's, as a clerk for Joe Bain in his Furniture and Appliance shop, chef at Paintearth Lodge and then Matron of Paintearth Lodge from 1962-1974 when she retired. After Andy's passing, she came to live in Calgary with her daughter Heather. She moved into Shouldice Lodge for a few years, and when her health was deteriorating, she moved to Bethany Care Centre Calgary in 1981. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Andrew June 18, 1976, her son Richard February 24, 1981; one brother George and 3 sisters - Elsie, Clara and Pearl. She is survived by her son Allan (Mollie) of Kingston, Ont., their children Deborah and Kevin; her daughter Heather (Dennis) Williams of Calgary, their children Darryl, Bonnie and Colleen; her Daughter-in-law Peggy (Allen, Wilkie) Brown and her daughters Janice and Jacqueline of Castor, 2 brothers Ross Weeks of Stettler and Omar Weeks of Kelowna; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Also one great granddaughter Jena . Interment at Castor Cemetery. Cause of Death - Complications of femur fracture, Parkinsons Disease. Obituary WILKIE December 13, 1987, Hazel Belle, aged 83 years, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre, Calgary, AB. Surviving are her son Allen Wilkie and his wife Mollie of Kingston, Ontario; her daughter Heather Williams and her husband Dennis of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Deborah, Kevin, Darryl, Bonnie, Colleen, Janice, Jacqueline; one great granddaughter Jena; as well as two brothers, Ross Weeks and Omar Weeks and his wife Dorothy. She was predeceased by a son Richard in 1981. A Memorial Service will be held at the Bethany Care Centre Chapel, 916 - 18A St N.W. today at 1:30 pm. A further Memorial Service will be held at Knox United Church in Castor, Alberta on Thursday, December 17, 1987.
