1787 Novbr 16 Born to Charles Paul and Elisbeth Philp his Spouse, a daughter baptized the 23d named Christian.

Death Source: OPR Aberdour Deaths 1834 , Pg 42
Christian Paul, Widow of Robt Wilkie, Farm Servant, Burnbrae, Age 46, Died 5th January and was interred on 8th currt in the New Church Yard

Christian (Paul) Wilkie's death left all of her children parentless, and I believe none of them were married at the time of her death. Her youngest Child, David Johnston Wilkie would be approximately 8 years old. At this time, I have no idea where David went for care and loving - 8 years old seems young even in these times to be on your own.

Death Registration - William Brown Wilkie Source: 1952 Parish 485A, entry 63
On 12 April 1952, at 11 Steps Street, Stenhousemuir, Parish of Larbert, William Brown Wilkie, Ploughman, aged 78, widower of Mary Ann McGregor, son of Andrew Wilkie, Ploughman deceased and Janet Brown deceased. Cause of death - Hypochronic Anaemia, Congestive Cardiac Failure. Informant was A. Wilkie, son, of Parkhead Cottages, Falkirk

** A son, named A. Wilkie, that I cannot find a birth registration for belonging to Wm Brown Wilkie & Mary Ann McGregor, I am wondering if this individual was Andrew Wilkie born to Andrew Wilkie & Mary Sharkey in 1902. Mary Sharkey died in 1903 and Andrew Wilkie died in 1907 but was with a Janet Laing - so perhaps Wm Brown Wilkie & Mary Ann McGregor adopted or raised him as their son.

Extract from the Dundee Courier
"SECRETS OF THE ROUTE ACROSS FROZEN LOCH LEVEN"
Sir,- There has been a good deal about Loch Leven in "The Courier" in recent weeks; some of your readers may find the following story of interest.

I was a general practioner in Kirkcaldy for over 35 years. About 30 years ago I had as a patient an old man in his 80s, Charles Wilkie, who lived in the Raith Estate.

He had been a farm worker for most of his life and told this story about his first job.

Having left school (at the age of 12) he was working on a farm on the north side of Loch Leven.

One winter's morning, when the loch was frozen hard, he was told by the grieve to get his horse out and harnessed to the cart; the man did the same, and they then put four sheep into each cart. he was then told to follow closely and do exactly as the older man did.

Much to his surprise and alarm they drove down to the edge of the loch and struck out across the ice!

He was not at all happy about his. In fact he "took a good grip" on the two nearest sheep so that they would keep him up if the cart went down! However, after one or two slight changes of direction they arrived safely on the priory island and later repeated the trip to fetch more sheep.

It was only later that he was told that there was, in fact, little danger; the grieve steering by chruch towers and other landmarks in Kinross, across the loch, was following the line of an old causeway out to the island, presumably made by the monks, and had the horse and cart gone through the ice the horse's head and the body of the cart would still have been above water (though a rescue might have presented problems).

The instructions regarding the route had been carefully handed down in that farm (presumably Portmoak or Grahamstone), which had the right to put sheep on the island.

This incident probably happened just over 100 years ago. I believe the level of the loch was changed at the end of last century, when the dam and sluices were built, and the "new Cut" to Auchmuir Bridge made to drain the marshland East of the loch; so perhaps the causeway is now much deeper under water.

Dr. E. R. Lewtas Gregson, 51 Dundee Road, Perth"

2016 research:
I have searched on familysearch.org & ancestry for Passenger / Immigration collections for George Rae & Christine. There are hits but conclusive evidence is lacking - like chn names are not matching this family. The entry read Mrs Geo Rae arriving New York from Glasgow aboard the Furnesia ship but her christian name is used - so more 'lookin' required
Likewise for George's arrival - so many George Rae(s), that none are conclusive enough hw

Other Wilkie researchers are suggesting George Rae died prior to 1948

Lillian Wilson was well known in adulthood as a Private nurse who administered to the sick in their homes for many years. It appears Lillian never married

Tweedsmuir History Springford Village & Farms, Springford Women's Institute Notes
" Melbourne Wilson had married Olive Witts from Norwich in 1916 and Olive died in the flu epidemic in 1918. Melbourne remarried in 1922 to Pearl Oatman and they stayed on the farm, farming it and other lands until it was turned over to their Son Douglas and his wife Marilyn in 1970. Melbourne and Pearl had two children, Douglas & Jean. Jean married Lorne Woodford and lived in Tillsonburg for many years. Doug married Marilyn Blair and they lived on the Hartwell Shattuck farm across the road.
Melbourne was a general farmer, maintaining a her of 18 milk cows, 12 sows, 200-300 chickens, and four horses until he got his first tractor, a Titan, followed by an International 1530, both with steel wheels. About 1947, Melbourne got his first rubber-tired tractor, an International M. His interest lay in his field crops, in which he took great pride, and in the machinery with which to grow and harvest them. He had a White thrashing machine for many years and threshed for the neighbourhood. His cutting box filled wht silos of the community.
He also produced a large gallonage of maple syrup each year from his 25 acres of hard maples. A newspaper article written for the Tillsonburg News about 1960, reported that he hung 1550 buckets to gather sap to produce 200 gallons of maple syrup. This production had been an annual event on the farm for fifty years. He gathered the sap in three 125 gallon tanks to geed theevaporator, a structure about 20 feet long and several feet wide housed in the sugar shanty. The sap was boiled to 218 degrees Fahrenheit before it was drawn off for storage.
Melbourne's Son Douglas always farmed with him. When Doug Wilson married they purchased the Shattuck farm across the road and ran the two farms together. They raised steers in the 1960's. J. W. Maus of Ayr, put them in, 30 to 40 at a time, to raise on grain. On the two farms they would have 80 - 100 steers at a time. In the 1970's they stopped raising steers and went to cash crop farming. Doug also did custom work, combining, cultivating and applying anhydrous ammonia fertilizer.
Pearl Wilson died in 1972 and Melbourne died in 1977. For a time the old house was vacant, until Grandson Ronald lived in it when first married. Unfortunately, the house burned one cold night in 1984. The big barns were eventually torn down and only drive sheds remain. In 1991, Son Gary took over the farm operation and continues the cash crop farming."

Charlie also worked on the same farm as his father Andrew -
Gospentry Farm Cottages. He, like his father, received a recognition award in the agricultural line for his farming skills.

Charlie never married. After his fathers' death, he remained at Gospentry and continued to look after his mother, who was a Type I diabetic. After his mothers' death, he took a long holiday to Australia.

Charlie died suddenly about 1991 and Aunt Jenny Mills wasn't notified so doesn't know too many details. He used to visit them regularly but upon his death there was no one who would notify the Mills family - Aunt Jenny and Nancy. They noticed a short clipping in the newspaper.

EXTRACT FROM NEWSPAPER 1988
OFF AFTER 51 YEARS
Charlie Wilkie knows every square inch of Gospentry Farm like the back of his hand - but he should, having worked the land west of Milnathort for no fewer than 51 years.
Yesterday, however, Charlie (65) retired with plans of discovering a new land.
"Later this year I hope to go to see relatives in Australia," he said after being presented with a wallet and notes by farmer Stanley Bayne of the well-known Fife bakery chain.
"It has long been an ambition of mine to go to see the three cousins I have never met before," he said. Charlie has lived in the same cottage all his life, his late father Andrew being grieve at the farm on the northern most tip of Fife.
On leaving Auchtermuchty primary School in 1937, he immediatley began working with the farm's cattle herds - filling almost every job over the years, including ploughman and tractorman.
"I have turned my hand to everything," he continued, "and have loved every minute of it. My favorite moments involved working with the Clydesdale horses which used to do many of the tasks before the days of tractors".
Charlie was excused war duties because of his work in agriculture, but it did not prevent him trying to join up. "My friend and I went over to volunteer in Dundee," he said, "but we were turned down because of our work with the farm.
"My father had been a prisoner of war after being wounded in the Great War - I still have his cap badge, postcards he sent while on service and many other memontoes - and I too wanted to serve my country.
"But the authorities decided that I could contribute more by working the land. "Instead I did serve with the Home Guard in Milnathort."

Charlie is well-known in local horticultural circles for his success with both vegetables and flowers. "I must admit I have won a few cups over the years for my efforts," he added.
"When I come back from Australia I hope to spend more time in my garden."

Will the long flight pose any problems to someone so used to life in the wide open spaces of the Fife countryside?
"The only time I have ever flown before was on a pleasure flight during a holiday in Blackpool many years ago," said Charlie, "but I am quite looking forward to the new challenge of flying halfway round the world in one go."
Picture shows Charlie (right) receiving his gift from Mr. Bayne.
