These names are indicative of naming patterns in Robert & Christian 's family. In 2010, contact with relatives in Dunedin, via ancestry.ca - confirming William Dick Wilkie was Son of Robert Wilkie & Christian Paul, married to Margaret Fraser. 1861 Scotland Census;CSSSCT1861_58; Kinglassie, Fife 440, Household 66, Line 8 William Wilkie, Age 44, Head, Male, Married, Birthplace Aberdour, Fife, Ploughman, Address South Walkerton Margaret (Fraser) Wilkie, Age 43, Female, Wife, Married Janet Wilkie, Female, Age 14 James Wilkie, Male, Age 12 Christina Wilkie, Female, Age 10 Charlotte Wilkie, Female, Age 8 William Dick Wilkie, Male, Age 6 Peter Fraser Wilkie, Male, Age 3 Charles Wilkie, Male, Age 5 mos. Relatives find him in England.** Then in New Zealand around the time of 1875 ancestry.ca file - Auckland Ship - 1245 tons, Captain: Stevens, Surgeon Superintendant: Sailed Glasgow 27th August 1874 - arrived Dunedin 21st November 1874 List of Passengers: Wilkie, William D., Age 57, County Fife, Occupation Ploughman Wilkie, Mrs Margaret, Age 55 Wilkie, Christina, Age 21 Wilkie, William Age 16 Wilkie, Peter Age 14 Wilkie, Charles Age 12 Wilkie, Robert Age 26, County Fife, Occupation Ploughman Wilkie, Mrs Elizabeth Age 26 Wilkie, Andrew Age 7 Wilkie, Elizabeth Age 3 Wilkie, Margaret Age 1 Certainly there seems to be a little discrepancy in the ages and birth dates as I know them, but then this did happen on passenger lists and other databases - so for the moment this checks out. I wonder, though, why Janet left earlier and was married in New Zealand, then also Son James - seems he was perhaps married there also - why did they leave earlier. I also wonder if all of these families or just some were sponsored by the govt to migrate to New Zealand????? HW Jan 2011 Article from the Otago Witness newspaper, Issue 1446, 9 August 1879, Pg 20 "The Greytown Railway Station" To the Editor: Sir, I hope you will permit me, through the medium of your paper, to publish the particulars of a case which should be made known to the public. Mr Wilkie purchased from Government, at a very high price, less than a quarter of an acre of land close to the Greytown railway station, upon which he had every reason to suppose a license would be granted. Having applied for a license, he was informed that it would be necessary to make certain alterations. These alterations were made, at a further expense, and in the meantime a petition was got up aginst the issue of a license, which was signed by Good Templars and others residing at Mosgiel, Outram, and other distant parts of the district. The license was refused twice, and the result was that the proprietor was ruined. Another party then applied, and he also was refused. A third is now in possession, keeping the place open, at a loss, as a coffee-house. Although he presented to the Bench a petition signed by 43 residents of Greytown, and there was no opposition, still a license was refused. The establishment here of a htoel and refreshment rooms would no doubt be a great public convenience. Nine trains a day stop to water here; besides extra and special trains; and pasengers are constantly in want of refreshments, as well as shelter from the cold and rain. Common justice, too, demands that license should be give to the house. Signed A Traveller "A Notable Event" Mr and Mrs William Wilkie of Greytown, East Taieri, celebrated their golden wedding with great rejoicings on the 18th inst. at the residence of their Son in Law, Mr John Sinclair, Cargill Street, Dunedin. Mr & Mrs Wilkie have borne the burden and heat of the day for 50 years, and they are still as hale and hearty as can be expected at their time of life. They are natives of Leslie, Fifeshire, Scotland and had five sons and three daughters, 24 grandchildren, and one great grandchild, all of whom, with the exception of one daughter, who is in Leslie, Fifeshire, took part in these festivities.* Mrs James C. Renton, George Street, is a Daughter, and her daughters Maggie & Bella, together with Misses Mary & Agnes Sinclair, (also grand-daughters) of the worthy couple) officiated as the golden bridesmaids. This is the second occasion on which the little Renton girls have acted in this capacity, they having been in evidence at Grandmother Renton's Golden wedding 18 mos ago. It is a unique experience, and these young people rejoice in the possession of grandparents on both sides who are in the enjoyment of excellent health, and who united ages, it is worth mentioning, amount to 303 years. At the close of a day full of happiness the golden bride was presented by her relatives and friends with a purse of sovereigns. Source: papers past, Otago Witness, 23 Nov 1893, Page 21; Otago Witness, Volume 23 Issue 2074, 23 November 1893, page 21. * I believe the daughter to be absent from this wonderful occasion would be Charlotte (Wilkie) Mayes William Dick Wilkie Death Notice On the 7th November, at the residence of his Daughter (Mrs J. The descendants in New Zealand and Australia state (as fact that William Dick Wilkie was the Son of Robert Wilkie & Christian Paul) they also do not claim to have a 'family Bible' or book of memoirs that conclusively state that but then they are a few generations along the line like me - thus some of the material could easily have been lost in moves, etc. HW Jan 2011 | Wilkie, William Dick (I195)

2459 | OPR 401/3 Births - 1826 "Januray 3, 1826, Born to Robert Wilkie, Labourer and Christian Paul, his spouse, a son baptized on 8th named David Johnston" 2nd Source: Birth Source: Fiche, Dunfermline Library - 0027-0028;6025660 I have not found any further data, events for David Johnston Wilkie. Haven't found any census records, but referring back to the Poor List documenting his Sister Elizabeth, I am presuming he is one of the brothers in service at the time Elizabeth was recorded on the Poor List, as David J. being one of the youngest boys in the family and soon would be an orphan as both his parents were deceased in 8 years hence. hw Corresponding with a descendant of David Johnston Wilkie in April 2010 via ancestry.ca. I found much of her material based on a collaboration of researchers on ancestry and not all of the data was verified, thus errors occurred. Elspeth Hutchinson & husb John had Robert Wilkie & Christian Paul's parents different than John Wilkie & Janet Stevenson, & likewise for Christian Paul. I shared with her my OPR births, deaths and the data on Elizabeth Wilkie and slowly we are correcting poor connections. For David Johnston, there are still many unanswered questions. Where did he go in Scotland after his Mother's death in 1834? It seems by 1841, a Brother John had moved to London, marrying a Barbara Hay and establishing his family there. David Johnston is recorded on the 1841 Scotland Census residing with Wm & Mary Wilson family (unknown to me as far as relations are concerned) - the Head of the family Wm Wilson is a shoe manager/ maker; David is age 15, and apprenticing in the shoe making business. No real proof at this point that this is our David Wilkie tho. as no Johnston name after the David 1851 England Census: St Giles Cripplegate, Middlesex, England David Wilkie is located at an establishment, apprenticing or working as a Baker. There are other lads from Scotland as well as other parts of the UK. David is Age 25 yrs 1852 - David Wilkie marries Eliza Rogers, the marriage taking place at Westminster, London, England (close to where his Brother John & Barbara ( Hay) Wilkie are living. David is Age 26, working as a Wine Merchant's Porter 1860 - Death of David Wilkie - Location Strand, London, Middlesex, UK - his age 34 yrs. Elizabeth was listed as Supported by the parish, born in the county and aged 30. (ages were rounded down to the nearest 5). She was in the household of John PHILP and (2nd) wife Catherine JOHNSTON at Bankhead in 1841/ They were living with John's son Robert PHILP, tenant farmer of Bankhead and Robert's wife Margaret LOCHTIE and family. (from Judy Philip - Australia) She was enumerated on the 1851 census with Andrew Arment at Aberdour, Fife, Scotland. The entry listed one Elizabeth, 61, MIL, Right Parish Relief, Birthplace Aberdour. ( I, HW, think it is a misprint by enumerator and should be 41, and sister in law SIL) Fife Family History Society Journal Vol 9, No 3, April 1997 Aberdour Poor Register, 1845 lists WILKIE, ELIZABETH: aged 36, and native of parish, is an orphan, and resides with her grand-uncle, John Philp, at Bankhead, par of Dalgety; is fatous (sic) and otherwise very weakly, and hardly able to wak out of doors without aid of staff; has 4 brothers and 2 sisters, of whom 3 brothers & one sister are married with families, and the other brother & sister are in service; does not receive assistance from any of them; Entry: 4 June 1838 at 3/6 weekly; in 1847 -48 resided with her sister and brother-in-law, Andrew Arment, at Cupar-moor, and removed with them to Puddledub on North Balmule on 11 Nov 1848. Death Registration: Source: 1858, Parish 401, Entry 17 At Beverkae, Parish of Aberdour, on 15 March 1858, Elizabeth Wilkie, Spinster, aged 52, daughter of Robert Wilkie, Ploughman deceased, and Christian Paull(sic). Cause of Death - Chronic Hydrocephalus (30 years), buried in New Church Yard, Aberdour as certified by Hugh Livingston, Gravedigger, the informant Andrew Arment, brother in law. There certainly are discrepancies of Elizabeth's age from the Census records and Death Registration - however as noted earlier on the 1841 census - the ages were rounded down to the nearest 5; Brother in law Andrew Arment (Arnott) perhaps didn't know her actual birth date when he registered her death. hw | Wilkie, Elizabeth (I192)

2498 | Place of Birth noted on death cert. says Norwich, England. On the 1851 and 1871 census for Dereham Township, Canada West, John states he was born in Canada, thus I think the informant said Norwich and Geo Fish presumed England and not Norwich, Oxford Cty. hw Informant on death Certificate is Mary Jane Haley. John Haley's wife's name was Mary Jane (Weeks) Haley | Source (S210)
