Correspondence with Margot Manning - Edinburgh Scotland May 30 2017
Michael & Margaret were both born in Ireland - one and perhaps both from County Clare. Relatives thought they were from Cork but Census records say Clare , although I (Margot) strongly suspect that the Mannings wee actually from Cork.
Margaret's surname was O'Bryan and not Bryant, but it was the Mannings who gave me most trouble. Not sure if my Aunts were able to trace their own birth certificates. My Father was registered as William Mannan but had it rectiied later.
Michael and Margaret were married in Perth in 1859 - Margaret's parents were Patrick O'Bryan and Bridget Gilligan.
Michael's parents were William Manning and Bridget Doherty
Michael and Margaret were Irish speakers but illiterate. They were probably potatoe famine emigrants.
Mary appears to have been registered as Mannon and was older than stated on her marriage certificate. That is very common. My Great-grandmother on my Mother's side got younger every census.
As a child; we were the only Mannings in Perthshire. There are others now but they are not related to us as far as I know. I was raised in Blairgowrie, Perthshire. We frequently visited Auchterarder as we had an Uncle and 2 Aunts in the area nearby
All I knew about Mary, she lived in Sterling. I didn't know her married name so I couldn't find out any more. By the way, I suspect that the name of the witness should be Faichney.
