Notes - Wes was subscripted, but refused joining in the early fall of 1942 due to
harvesting for his folks. Then he joined after harvesting in 1942 - The Canadian Army, registration # 38623. He was in the 'MT' division, and had postings to Jamacia
Served in WWII until 1945.
In visiting with Wes's brother Danny Strome - Aug 2014, Danny said he remembered it differently. Said govt officials were looking for eligible males for the Army and Wes said NO - he was harvesting. The next day, to policemen and a military recruiting officer came to the farm field and insisted that Wes come with them and subsequently was enlisted into the Army.
After his marriage to Marg. Bowen, Wes and Marj, resided in Castor, AB. Wes worked for Schnell's garage as a mechanic, then for the County of Paintearth. He left for Red Deer, AB, in 1970; hired as mechanic/welder for City of Red Deer - Public Works Dept.
He retired Oct. 23, 1986 - the day he became 65.
Occupation: Heavy Duty Mechanic, also auto mechanic.
