  Correspondence with Annette Smithers, family member in the Butler family Dec 2018 Annette states the Butlers came from Ireland, migrated in 1870's to New Zealand, settling & farming in Medbury, Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand. Patrick Butler (son of James & Catherine (Nolan) Butler is her Great Uncle 2019 research by me (hw) has revealed James Butler & Catherine (Kate) Nolan were married in New Zealand - Reg # 1874/10099 I have found 10 children born to them between the years of 1876 - 1902 - in Medbury, Canterbury area of New Zealand Death Record: Butler, James Cemetery: Horsley Down Plot: HD631 Death Date: 02 June 1939 Age 85 Husband of Catherine - plot HD630 and Father of Johanna Plot HD632
