Passed away peacefully on Wed. Oct. 10th, 2001, (Ret. Staff Sgt.) James
"Cecil" Marquette, of Tillsonburg at the age of 88 years.
Born Sept. 13, 1913 in Winchester, Ontario, son of the late George Marquette and the late former Nellie Lynch. Served with distinction overseas during WW2 with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces receiving the 1939 to 1945 Star, the France Star and the Germany Star decorations with the Royal Canadian Electircal Mechanical Engineers (UK Continental Europe and North Atlantic Theatres of Operations). Resident of Tillsonburg since 1946, where he began his extensive Policing Career as a Constable with the Tillsonburg Police Services eventually attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. (Tillsonburg Police Services) serving on active duty for 28 years until Dec. 31, 1974. Served as interim Chief of Police (1976).
Predeceased by his wife Dorothy E. (Sherman) Marquette (Jan. 14th 1989). Much loved father and father-in-law of three daughters: Diane and her husband Renzo Scaini of Simcoe; sharon and her husband Bill Godby of Langton and Cecile and her husband Bob Barnhart of London. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren - Stephen and Nicole, Michael, Beth, David and donna, Robin and Kathy, Adelia and five great grandchildren. Survived by two brothers: Fred Marquette of Winchester, Ontario and George Marquette and his wife Rita of St. Andrew's, Ontario and a sister Mrs. Marion Patterson of Winchester, Ontario. Also survived by a sister-in-law Mrs. Joyce Marquette of Winchester, Ontario and several neices, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by five brothers and three sisters: Ina and her husband Frank Fiddes, Willis Marquette, Hugh Marquette, Clifford Marquette and his wife Glossie, Joseph Marquette, Jean D'Arcy and her husband Harold, Keith Marquette and Anna Hawkins and her husband William.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of (Ret. Staff Sgt.) James "Cecil" Marquette to be conducted in the Verhoeve Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 13th, 2001 at 1:30 pm by Rev. Bob Barnhart. Interment to follow in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial donations payable by cheque to the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital (Wellness Centre) or any charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Public visitation at the Verhoeve Funeral Home, Tillsonburg on Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Graveside memorial service to be conducted under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 153, Tillsonburg.
