Obituary - Barry Edward "Ted" Thompson - Quesnel newspaper

Barry Edward Thompson lost his long and courageous battle with cancer on June 20, 1996 at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital.
Ted touched the lives of many over his 35 year teaching career in Quesnel.
He was first assigned to Riverview Elementary in 1961, then to Cariboo High School, followd by Quesnel Jr. Secondary and continued his career in Physical Education at Correlieu Sr. Secondary.
In 1994, Ted was honoured with a Longevity Award from the Coaching Association. Ted's love of sport extended beyond his school activities to his involvement in community sports.
Over the years, Ted coached and refereed hockey, soccer, basketball and gymnastics.
Another side of Ted was his early voice training and it was his love for music and the theatre that led him to participate in many musical productions by Quesnel's Little Theatre. The last role he lovingly played was for the Rent - a- Santa program sponsored by the Canadian Cancer Society in Quesnel.
Ted was an avid enthusiast of the outdoors and a member of the Quesnel naturalist Club and was especially keen on fishing and canoeing the Bowron lakes and the Nazko area rivers. He unselfishly shared his knowledge of the outdoors with others.
Ted was the son of Bud and the late Dorothy Thompson. He was born and raised in Chilliwack and graduated from University of BC.
He was predeceased by his first wife Colleen. Ted will be greatly missed by his sons Brian and Warren, his wife Pam and her children Jeannine and Ken, all of Quesnel; his sister Myrna/Bill Peacock of Edmonton; his brother Doug (Sylvia) Thompson of Penticton and his nieces and nephews David, Susan, and Glen Peacock, and Hayley and Rheagan.
To honour Ted's wishes, a gathering of his friends and relatives will take place on Thursday, June 27 at the Corrlieu Theatre.
