Obituary:
Milton Harvey Strome was born in the village of Manheim, Ontario on Sept.
8, 1889 and he passed away in the Castor Hospital on Oct. 20, 1968 at the age of 70 years.
He came with his parents to Sedgewick, AB in the spring of 1906. He and his brothers moved to the Bulwark district in 1914. In 1917 on June 7th, Mr Strome was united in mariage to Pearl Agnes Weeks. They resided three miles North of Castor until 1946 when they moved South of town where they resided until 1962. They then retired to live in Castor.
Mr. Strome was predeceased by one son, Henry in 1950. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife; 5 sons - Clarence, Wesley, Walter, and Daniel of Castor, AB, Ernest of Edmonton. 8 daughters - Mary Anne(Mrs Art Pederson) of Blackfalds, AB, Hazel-Mrs. John Annett of Fleet; Elsina of Castor; Dora (Mrs Daniel Morasch) of Castor; Violet (Mrs Graham Clark) of Ladner B. C.; Susan (Mrs James Bedson) of Brownfield; Beatrice (Mrs. Victor Tschritter) of Edmonton; Ruby (Mrs David Lapetinsky) of Edmonton; 46 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.
The pall bearers were six of the sons-in-law; Messrs. Pedersen, Annett, Morasch, Bedson, Tschritter, and Lapetinsky.
The funeral service was conducted in the Missionary Church in Castor. Rev. H. A. Traub officiated. Lissack Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The Strome Family Story
Michael and Mary Anne Strome and two of their sons, William and Milton, came to Alberta in the spring of 1905, by CNR, with a load of settlers' effects. They had a cow, a bull, a walking plough and their household furnishings.
The CNR brought them by way of Camrose which was then the end of steel on that line. From there they drove to Daysland and on to Sedgewick, where they took homesteads. Two other sons, Edwin and Noah came out in 1904, looking for work. They were already located in the Sedgewick area.
In 1907, the father, Michael, took sick with inflammatory rheumatism and died in June. He was buried on the homestead which is now a big wheat field.
In 1914, William and Milton moved across the river to the Bulwark area where they bought a section of land from Tom Gorrell for $16,000. They farmed it in partnership until 1917, when Milton and Pearl Weeks were married. William took over the section himself, but he lost it in 1924.
Noah had a hotel in Sedgewick that burned down, sohe started on in Alliance and built a house there too. He and his family lived there until 1918 when they sold eveything and went back to Berlin, Ontario,now known as Kitchener. He and his family of 9 still live there.
Milton and I (Pearl) made our first home on the old Walter Pyle place in the Beaverdale district, North of Castor. Later we moved to a farm just West of Pilsworths in the Beaverdale district. Then Milton bought a half-section South of Castor, where we lived until retiring to live in town.
Milton has passed on, but I am still living in my own home. We had fourteen children and most of them live in and near Castor. I enjoy my grandchildren- over 50 of them.

Eulogy: Alice Mary Ann (Strome) Pedersen

Alice "Mary Ann" Pedersen, a long time resident of Lacombe and district, passed away in Red Deer at the age of 86. Mary Ann was born in Castor, Alberta, the oldest of 14 children born to Milton and Pearl Strome. She lived on a farm south of Castor for eighteen years where she learned practical skills and a strong work ethic. From there, she went to Calgary and took a year of Bible college at Berean Bible College under the excellent instruction of Cyril Hutchinson, Earnest Manning and others. She took up various housekeeping jobs and kept busy constantly serving the needs of others. While in Calgary, she met and married Arthur Pedersen and had a lasting relationship of 55 years (Art died in 1995). Mary Ann was an active member in the Mountain Grove Friendship Club as well as served most of her life with the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) - a group dedicated to strong moral standards in our country. She was well known for her compassion toward others and her willingness to help anyone under any circumstances. Her strongest quality is that of praying diligently for each person who had a special need in their life. She has undoubtedly touched thousands of people through her prayers. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and working in Pioneer Girls. She could take almost anything that most people would consider garbage and turn it into a craft that looks great or into something useful. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and do things with her hands. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur and her younger brothers Henry, Clarence and Walter and is survived by 11 brothers and sisters, and 4 children: Morris of Lacombe, Mabel Schmidt of Red Deer, James of Nebraska, David of Abbotsford and Wayne of Olds, 12 grand children and many great grand children.

Pedersen, Mary Ann. Born March 17, 1918, died March 30, 2004. Mary Ann is predeceased by her husband Arthur and brothers Walter, Clarence and henry. A memorial Service for Mary Ann will be held at Deer Park Alliance Church, Monday, April 5, 2004 at 3 P.M. Mary Ann has 5 living children - Morris (Hazel) of Lacombe, Mabel (Roy) Schmidt of Red Deer, James (Marilyn) of Nebraska, David of Abbotsford, and Wayne (Jean) of Olds, 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She served as President of the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Lacombe and was involved with the Women's Christian Club. She gives special thanks to Dr. Greig and the Workers on Unit 33 of the Red Deer Hospital, especially Lynn. Mary Ann will be remembered for her love for others and deep cafe and concern for what people feel and go through. Her reservoir of love was always full due to her deep rooted faith in God and unending prayer. Mary Ann enabled many people to come to Jesus Christ by praying constantly for missionaries, her children and may others. In referring to her children, Mar Ann said on her last day "If I had not been on my knees in prayer for you (her children) you would not have gone forward". The common word coming from so many people that describe Mary Ann is "positive". She rarely had a bad word to say about anyone and always looked for the good in others and ways to lift them up. In her last hours, the words of her grandchildren ring forth "Grandma, we'll miss you". Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, prayer warrior, encourager, supporter, giver, selfless, humorous, gentle, and kind - all synonyms for Mary Ann.

Clarence Edward Strome

Clarence remained a bachelor.

Obituary:
Born February 7, 1920 in the Castor Hospital, Clarence was the
eldest son born to Milton and Pearl Strome. He attended the rural school of Beaverdale for the first nine years and then took part of highschool in Castor riding horseback, biking and many times walking the five miles each way. He helped with the farm work at home and then spent a few years working as a hired hand on other farms. Clarence drove truck for several years and later took up employment at Schnell's Shop in Castor. He worked there for a good number of years, mostly fixing and repairing farm equipment. he continued to work for Dave Clark after Dave purchased the business from Schnells. Besides this Clarence had a bit of land of his own and he loved to go and spend time putting in his crop and working on his tractors and equipment. Clarence spent his entire life in the Castor area and will be missed by many people.

Clarence died in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital Castor on Saturday, July 10, 1993 at the age of 73 years.

Clarence was known and most skilled in repairing any piece of equipment. He collected antique trucks, and tractors which were sold at a public auction after his death.

Clarence lived with his sister Elsina in their parents home in Castor.

Wesley Herbert Strome

Wes was subscripted, but refused joining in the early fall of 1942 due to
harvesting for his folks. Then he joined after harvesting in 1942 - The Canadian Army, registration # 38623. He was in the 'MT' division, and had postings to Jamacia
Served in WWII until 1945.
In visiting with Wes's brother Danny Strome - Aug 2014, Danny said he remembered it differently. Said govt officials were looking for eligible males for the Army and Wes said NO - he was harvesting. The next day, to policemen and a military recruiting officer came to the farm field and insisted that Wes come with them and subsequently was enlisted into the Army.

After his marriage to Marg. Bowen, Wes and Marj, resided in Castor, AB. Wes worked for Schnell's garage as a mechanic, then for the County of Paintearth. He left for Red Deer, AB, in 1970; hired as mechanic/welder for City of Red Deer - Public Works Dept.

He retired Oct. 23, 1986 - the day he became 65.

Occupation: Heavy Duty Mechanic, also auto mechanic.

Henry was killed in an industrial accident. He was operating heavy
equipment (caterpillar) clearing bush in NW Alberta, when a tree branch struck him on the temple and he was killed instantly. Henry was unmarried.

(Medical):Caterpillar operator; changed machines and attempted to do a quick task just before lunch; tree came down on him, killing him. No cab on the caterpillar.

Celebrating Fifty Years
Congratulations to Jim & Susan Bedson, who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at Burma Park with family and friends on July 8th, 2006
A potluck dinner was enjoyed by over 150 guests at the park with Mother Nature cooperating beatuifully.
Louise Guidolin read a personalized poem to her parents and daughter in law Brandi Bedson read a joke on the secrets of a long marriage
Jim and Susan were presented medals for their 50 years together, as well as certification from Premier Ralph Klein, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, MLA Doug Griffiths and the Lieutenant Governor.
Since Jim and Susan exchanged wedding vows on June 5 1956 - a legacy of family has been created. A majority of their family attended including: Harry and Sherri (Straub) Bedson of Lacombe with children Nicki (Kevin), Josh (Alyssa) and Kacey: Bill and Roylene Bedson of Coronation; Ralph and Brenda Bedson of High River with children Erin, Trent and Kelton; Tracie and Virginia (Bedson) Guidolin of Whitehorse, Yukon with Son Calahan; Lyle and Louise (Bedson) Guidolin of Red Deer with children Rianna and Dallas; and Chub and Brandi Bedson with children Jesse, Janelle and Jeremy of Fox Creek.
Missing was granddaughter Charlene Guidolin and her daugher, Emma of Red Deer and also Marg and Carl Deem of Drumheller and their Son Michael (Lindsey) and their two children Rachelle and Zach from Calgary.
Special guests travelled from near and far to spend the day and weekend visiting and sending best wishes to the couple

In loving memory, the families of Susanna Belle Bedson announce her peaceful passing on August 15, 2010 with her family at her side at the Castor Hospital.
Mother Sue was born the 9th child of 14 children to Milton & Pearl Strome on October 26, 1931 in the Castor Hospital. She attended Beaverdale School north of Castor from 1937 -1 946.
Susan spread her wings and left the area to reside and work in Calgary at the Grace Hospital, then returned home to be employed at the Castor Hospital.
A short time later she worked as a cook on George Butterwick's farm, located near Brownfield.. It was true love when she met the hired hand, Jim Bedson. They were married a couple months later on June 5 1956 and resided on Jim's homestead, four miles north of Brownfield, "River Road Ranch". They settled there until 2008, at which time they moved into Coronation.
Susan graced their ranch with her love, warmth, and adventurous spirit. She provided a humble home for her husband Jim and their 7 blessed children: Margaret (Carl) Deem, of Drumheller; Harry (Sherri) Bedson of Lacombe; Bill (Roylene) Bedson of Coronation; Ralph (Brenda) Bedson of High River; Virginia (Tracie) Guidolin of Whitehorse, Yukon; Louise (Lyle) Guidolin of Red Deer and Chub (Brandi) Bedson of Fox Creek.
Susan's home was always open to all family, friends and neighbours, whom she shared her neverending generosity and hospitality. She will always be remembered for her devotion to the community serving on numerous boards and committees.
Mother Sue's nurturing garden will always bloom in her 14 grandchildren, Michael (Lindsey), Nicki (Kevin), Josh, Kacey, Erin, Trent, Kelton, Calahan, Charlene, Rianna, Dallas, Jesse, Janelle and Jeremy.
Her face always lit up when in the presence of her 5 great granchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Cody, Emma and Maxx. She will also be remembered by her brothers and sisters, Wesley Strome, Hazel Annette, Elsina Strome, Dora Morasch, Violet Clark, Ernest Strome, Daniel Strome, Beatrice Tschritter & Ruby Lopetinsky. Susan was predeceased b y her Parents, Milton & Pearl; her siblings Mary Ann Pederson, Clarence Strome, Henry Strome & Walter Strome.

** Susan had a daughter born 1950 in Grace Hospital, Calgary AB - and as she was single, she gave her dtr up for adoption - later in life they found one another - the dtr being Girl Strome, who was later adopted by Parents unknown and named Margaret - who married Carl Deem.
