2793 Spelling variations of this surname are:
Arment, Airment, Armit, Armitt, and whether ARNOT or ARNOTT is mispelled by enumerator, etc.??

1851 Census:
Aberdour Parish 401, Enumerator's District 7, page 19, Address Beaver Kay
Andrew Arment, head, Marr., age 31, Ag. Labourer, Birthplace Inverkeithing, Fife
Isabella Arment, wife, Marr, age 30, Birthplace Aberdour
Robert Arment, Son, age 10, Scholar, Birthplace Leslie, Aberdeen*
Christina Arment, Dau, age 8, Scholar, Birthplace, Leslie, Aberdeen*
Andrew Arment, Son, Age 3*, Birthplace Cupar, Fife
Isabella Arment, Dau, Age 1, Birthplace Aberdour*
Elizabeth Wilkie, mother in law, Unmarr., age 41, Receipt of Parish Relief, Birthplace Aberdour, Fife*
Those with *, errors, as Leslie is clearly Fife, not Aberdeen and Isabella's age 1 yr or month?; Elizabeth is a sister to wife Isabella, not mother in law. - hence whether enumerator was having difficulty or was being given ? info - who knows. HW

**I suspect this Isabella Arnot (informant) is a grand daughter as Daughter Isabella died in 1874. hw

Obituary; Dunfermline Journal, Feb 05 1898, Page 3
Arnot - At Castlehill Brickwork, Donibristle, on the 28 Jan, Andrew Arnot - Age 77 years

Another family (Arnot family) member has been researching this Family as well has many 'family keepsakes' in his possession - and their sources say Andrew Arment (Arnott) Parents were Robert Arnot born 1792 & Jean Montgomery born 1794. I cannot say which is most correct, but my source is from Andrew's death certificate and perhaps the informant - dtr Isabella was unsure of the names. HW

At some point before the 1871 census, the surname Airment was changed to ARNOT, and again some fam. members used one 'T' and others 'TT'.
