I wonder, though, why Janet left earlier and was married in New Zealand, then also Son James - seems he was perhaps married there also - why did they leave earlier. I also wonder if all of these families or just some were sponsored by the govt to migrate to New Zealand????? HW Jan 2011 Marriage: 1889, London England Groom - William Ayres Age 21 Bride, Elizabeth Wilkie Age 19 (Parents Robert Wilkie & Elizabeth Mitchell) Brides Brother Wm. Dick Wilkie born 1865 in Kinglassie, Fife, Scotland Source: email from Alan Noble 2004 - his wifes Grandparents were William Ayre & Elizabeth Wilkie 1891 England Census; Class RG12, Piece 121, Folio 126, Pg 57; GSU roll 6095231 William Ayres, Head, Male, Married, Age 22 Eliza Ayres, Female, Wife, Married, Age 22 William Ayres, Son, Male, Age 1 I have found a 1911 census that looks promising to be that of William Ayres & wife Elizabeth and a large family William Ayres, Head, Age 42, Married, 9 chn born, 8 living, 1 died, General Labourer, builder, Worker, born London Westminster, British Elizabeth Ayres, Wife, Age 41, Married x 22 yrs, birthplace St Pancras, London** William Ayres, Son, Age 21, Single, Drapers Porter, worker, birthplace Marylebone, London Elizabeth Ayres, Dtr, Age 19, Single, Domestic Servant, birthplace London John Ayres, Son, Age 17, Single, Errand boy, birthplace London Henry Ayres, Son, Age 16, Single, Errand boy, birthplace London Albert Ayres, Son, Age 9, Single, School, birthplace London Doris Ayres, Dtr, Age 6, School, birthplace London Leonard Ayres, Son, Age 4, School, birthplace London Frederick Ayres, Son, Age 2, birthplace London This census info jives with the marriage information I have, so sheds doubt and accuracy on death date of Wm Ayres 1902 and obviously not a Son either as the 1891 census - Son William was 1, thus jives with the Son here whose age is 21. HW Jan 2011 Further corresonpondence with a Noble family researcher whose wife's Parents were the youngest son Frederick of William Ayres & Elizabeth Wilkie. The naming pattern is consistent with John being William Ayres`s father`s name, Elizabeth for her Mother`s name; missing is a Robert but according to the census info, one child died. Jan 2011 HW Still trying to verify 1911 census - cannot find a William & Elizabeth Ayres in 1901, there are multiple William Ayres and Eliz. combinations so difficult to rule out 'no's and find the right one without something further to go on - like why does Elizabeth (Wilkie) Ayres both on her marriage and 1891 census give her birthplace as London England??? Her family and grandparents were aboard the ship Auckland to New Zealand in 1874 - how / when did they return to England??Her Sister Margaret was born in Kinglassie December 1872 thus the family moved to England after that HW Feb 2011 | Wilkie, Elizabeth (I700)
